A Quincy Jones compound near Los Angeles is peak 70s glamour

Designed for actress Linda Gray

The 1970s vibes are strong at this Los Angeles compound by legendary modernist-to-the-stars A Quincy Jones for actress Linda Gray and her art director ex-husband, Ed Thrasher.

Jones completed 15659 Knochaven Street in Santa Clarita around 1973 for the glamorous couple, who requested ample entertaining facilities at the five-bedroom hideaway, including the most period of period features – a sunken conversation pit.

The seating area is the heart of the Santa Clarita home, wrapping around a giant fireplace in the living room. Its vaulted timber ceiling is supported by shaved tree trunks – an organic material palette that California architect and artist Josh Schweitzer continues in the kitchen, crowned by overhead skylights.

Along with 100-year-old oak trees, the grounds also host a two-bedroom guest house, swimming pool, tennis court and a four-horse stable and barn: organic gardens and a serene koi-pond round out the offerings.

The California property is listed for $2.995m via Billy Rose, Natasha Sizlo, and Andrea Korchek of The Agency.
