It’s been closed since the late 60s, but this Florida jail – on the market for $140,000 – is still said to be haunted by the ghosts of prisoners past.
The former prison is located in Trenton, Gilchrist County, and served as the local lock-up from 1928 until 1968, with many inmates spending their nights alone until a separate jailer’s residence was built in 1966.
It’s reportedly something of a hot spot for paranormal activity, and is described by estate agent Watson Realty Corp as ‘certifiably haunted’. The jail’s current owner hosts regular ghost tours inside the building, which could be a similar source of commercial income for prospective buyers. The resident spirits have apparently already been reassured that any new owner will take good care of them.
There are eight ‘bedrooms’ and bathrooms inside the old Gilchrist county jail, although anyone wanting to stay there overnight will find the building uninhabitable in its present state. Still, grand designs could transform it into a unique property – though not entirely erase its grizzly past.
