A contemporary Catskills cabin lists for $895k

This Catskills cabin eschews the traditional rustic pine aesthetic in favour of sleek minimalism, clean lines and modern materials.

The BackCountry Hut Company designed the Scandinavian-style prefab hideaway, which sits on five acres of woodland on the outskirts of the village of Catskill. Mossy Hill features a pitched metal roof with a wall of glass and cedar tongue-and-groove siding.

Inside, slate flooring and cedar timber walls heighten the modern cabin vibe. The house is high-performing, too: geothermal heating and solar-powered skylights are integrated into the design, and the gourmet kitchen has cherrywood countertops and stainless steel appliances.

Though modern, it still has plenty of cabin core inspiration with wooden built-ins. The two-bedroom main cabin also includes a separate studio and an outdoor kitchen—ideal for embracing slow living and nature.

Emily Iason of Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing for 489 Mossy Hill Road, which is asking $895,000. The property is around 2.5 hours from New York, while the village of Catskill has restaurants, bars, shops and breweries and is 10 minutes down the road. Woodstock, Saugerties, and Catskills ski resorts are also close by.
