New York Fashion Week has become something of an architecture trail, with fashion houses commandeering many of the city’s finest landmarks to show their collections. And the runways are often works of art in themselves.
Now that the SS 2016 shows are all wrapped up, we take you on a tour of the finest show spaces, via Instagram.
DKNY
The ribcage of Santiago Calatrava’s World Trade Center transit hub provided a graphic backdrop for DKNY’s SS 2016 collection.
3.1 Phillip Lim
Artist Maya Lin sculpted an earthy runway for 3.1 Phillip Lim’s anniversary show at Pier 92. Nearly 200-tonnes of compost were piled high for the installation, titled Seven Earth Mountain, much of which will be reused in the New York Restoration Project for New York City community gardens.
Thom Browne
Thom Browne took showgoers back to school inside Skylight Modern.
Victoria Beckham
The vaulted ceiling of the 1921 Cunard building at 25 Broadway was an elaborate foil for Victoria Beckham’s crisp, modern collection.
Rodarte
Star Wars-style light sabres illuminated the Rodarte runway, designed by Bureau Betak, at Center 548.
Coach
It’s not all about the shows – sometimes the parties are just as dazzling, as proved by Coach’s dinner at 225 Liberty Street, also produced by Bureau Betak.
Diesel Black Gold
Andreas Melbostad chose the raw setting of an abandoned bank vault opposite the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street to show his collection.
Thakoon
Thakoon’s runway backdrop took cues from artist James Turrell.
