The adage states that ‘red and green should never be seen without a colour in between’. But Milanese arts hub Spazio Maiocchi throws that rule out of the window inside its striking new bar, which uses high tones and eye-bending patterns to powerful effect.

Capsule Magazine collaborated with architect Paul Cournet on the bar’s vibrant interiors, choosing a strict colour palette of red, green and black. The ceramic wall tiles are courtesy of Mutina and designed by Konstantin Grcic, while the patterned tiles were created by Memphis Group designer Ettore Sottsass.

Aside from the intense colour palette, the bar is extremely minimal in appearance. There’s a bright green bar counter, stainless steel shelves and futuristic-feeling tubular lighting.

But while the bar itself is unconventional, the coffee is anything but, with Spazio Maiocchi’s patrons fuelled by Lavazza.
