A dilapidated Peckham church sets the scene for a cult-like initiation ceremony in electronic group Flaunt’s new video.
Directed by Lexi Kiddo, ‘I Haven’t Thought About You Yet’ shows dancers performing a ritual for a new member in Caroline Gardens Chapel, an 1827 church that was bombed during the Blitz.
‘It’s a spacious, run-down chapel, letting in loads of light,’ says Kiddo. ‘It was a perfect location for this video as it sets the scene for a warm atmosphere and a cult-like vibe, without being overtly religious.’
The building stands at the heart of a Grade II-listed site, once a complex of old folks’ homes run by charitable trusts for retired pub landlords in the era before the welfare state.
Bombing during World War II gutted much of the chapel’s innards but its original stained glass windows remain, along with traces of graffiti added to the structure’s walls when it was abandoned.
Today, arts group Asylum runs it as an event and exhibition space while raising funds to repair the church.
