Canadian architect Roger D’Astous is perhaps best known for his church designs, a dozen of which are scattered across the province of Quebec, but this 1961 home in Boucherville transplants his dramatic ideas into a domestic scale.

The midcentury property is on the market via ReMax for $1.129m and is set around a cavernous double height sunroom. It’s decked in warm timbers and planted with an indoor garden which rises beneath a large skylight.

An original staircase, inset with a circular motif, leads up to the main living space on the first floor, which has beamed ceilings and wood-panelled walls. This vast space comprises an open lounge, kitchen and dining room overlooking the outdoor swimming pool below, and is set with oversized windows.

The Quebec property’s four bedrooms still have their original flooring and details, though the kitchen and bathroom have been updated.
