Does MaMa Kelly restaurant in Amsterdam take millennial pink a step too far?

Is there such a thing as too much pink? Kitsch Amsterdam eatery MaMa Kelly doesn’t think so…

The chicken and lobster spot has opened inside the city’s historic 1928 Olympic Stadium and its 1,000 sq m space has been drenched from top-to-bottom in Instagram’s favourite colour, millennial pink, by designer Rein Rambaldo.

Rambaldo – whose studio De Horecafabreik also created the group’s original blue-hued outpost in The Hague – drew inspiration from the interiors of a tiny New York store and decided to up the ante for MaMa Kelly…

‘In the beginning everyone declared Rein to be crazy, but he went for it,’ says the practice.

Floors, ceilings, carpets, staircases and even the central carousel bars at MaMa Kelly are doused in the cheerful colour, which is accompanied by softer brass elements.

Pink leather booths are set inside timber framed ‘cabins’, while more traditional oak tables and chairs feature brass legs and plush pink upholstery.

But is it a shade too far? You decide.
