Art deco gets an electric update at this Lisbon bar and restaurant, which pairs the classic geometric patterns and shapes of the movement with a fluorescent palette.
Lulu takes its name, and some inspiration, from 1920s actress Louise Brooks and captures some of the style of the same era with its interiors – designed by DC.AD studio.
The patterned marble floor and arch-shaped windows might be typical of the period, but they’re contrasted by hot pink tubular steel furniture and stripes of neon lighting.
There’s plenty of cheerful colour clashing as well, from the lilac bar stools and the pastel pink bar to the green marble and mirror of a banquette dining area. Guests are even bathed in acid green neon light in the toilets.
Lulu’s menu, much like its name, honours iconic women, with cocktails named after actress Myrna Loy, singer Cindy Lauper and activist and aerobics enthusiast Jane Fonda.
The food offering is a long list of small plates, which range from octopus croquettes and codfish tempura to duck and waffles and a mini wellington. There’s creme brulee and lime tart to finish.
