The Grade II*-listed Port of Liverpool Building is up for grabs for anyone with a spare £23 million.

Built in 1907, the former home of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board (MDHB) is one of the city’s ‘Three Graces’ – a trio of historical buildings on Liverpool waterfront’s world heritage site.

Its original architects, Sir Arnold Thornely and FB Hobbs, designed the Portland stone building in an Edwardian Baroque style.

‘The Port of Liverpool Building is one of the centrepieces of Liverpool’s UNESCO world heritage waterfront and we are proud custodians, investing heavily to restore the building to its original glory and to bring it up to grade A-equivalent standard,’ said a spokesperson for the building’s current owner, developer Downing. ‘We think the time is right to market this remarkable asset.’

MDHB occupied the building until 1994. Downing acquired the property in 2001 and – between 2006 and 2009 – spent £8.5 million restoring the building’s Portland stone, river-facing façade as well as refurbishing 20,000 sq ft of office space.
