Photographer Adas Vasiliauskas sent his drone out to capture how friends and neighbours are keeping themselves amused during quarantine.

Social distancing might be wreaking havoc on photographers’ careers, but Adas Vasiliauskas came up with a clever workaround. With his usual jobs postponed or cancelled, he used his drone to photograph his friends and neighbours from outside their windows and balconies.

The images show some of the ways people are staving off quarantine boredom, from dressing up for a day at the beach to sunbathing on the roof. One photograph captures a family mid-birthday party.

According to Vasiliauskas, even though he started out snapping his friends he’s been inundated with requests from others who also want quarantine portraits. ‘It’s important to cheer people and show that there’s a bright side of this awful virus and quarantine situation,’ says the photographer.

Ontario declared a state of emergency on 17 March 2020, with cities including Toronto and London now on lock-down. The GTA’s creatives have found innovative ways to ease the boredom of social distancing without breaking quarantine, including this opera singer, who’s been treating her neighbours to daily performances from her lakefront balcony.
