Set inside a converted stable, this holiday retreat in North Norfolk blends midcentury style with traditional rural architecture.

Turner.Works overhauled the agrarian building for its new role, while interiors are a collaboration between designer Alma + Midori and The Modern House, which has the exclusive rental listing for the UK holiday home. Alma + Midori founder Nicola Loughton describes the converted stable as ‘Norfolk’s gentle nod to Palm Springs, especially after a dip in the pool.’

They’ve drawn inspiration from the surrounding landscape of golden grass and blue sky, bringing in bold colours and shapes alongside natural materials such as linen and jute. Bare brick meets geometric wall hangings, while original wooden beams contrast OSB wood headboards and doors.

Loughton has focused on clean, midcentury shapes for the furniture, which allows the rustic details of the former stable to shine through. The two-bedroom home functions as a design showcase and includes pieces by Barber & Osgerby, Tessa Layzelle, Muller Van Severen and Robin Day.

As well as an enviable collection of design pieces, Great Barn Farm offers an on-site pool, jacuzzi and steam room. On winter evenings, says Loughton, the home’s living room is bathed in the glow of the evening sun hitting the terracotta tiles outside.

‘There is an otherworldliness about the landscape of Norfolk that makes you feel like you’ve really arrived somewhere different when you travel there,’ she adds.

Prices start from £950 per week.
