A Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian home has come to market in Michigan following an $800,000 renovation.
The Robert D. and Winifred L. Winn Residence was built in 1950 and is one of eight Frank Lloyd Wright-designed properties in Kalamazoo. Four of them, including the Winn home, are in the Parkwyn Village subdivision, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
Fred Taber of Jaqua Realtors is listing the 2,469-sq-ft home for $1.85m, making it the second most expensive listing in Kalamazoo. The current owners acquired the property in 2012 and have invested around $800,000 in it over the past 12 years.
Living spaces expand across two storeys, with Wright’s customary walls of windows, concrete blocks, and open layout, emphasising horizontal lines. The house has plenty of original features, including a colossal double-sided fireplace in the living room.
According to the listing, the Usonian is the only home in the subdivision with a walk-out lower level – it’s also the only one without radiant floor heating, which was a staple of Wright’s Usonian designs. The three-bedroom Michigan property sits on a 2.3-acre lot.
