Interior designer Nikoll Nobay designed this ‘liveable shed’ in New South Wales’ Kangaroo Valley to capture views of Barrengarry Mountain.
Sitting on a 5-acre plot surrounded by woodlands, Black Star Barn is named for its monochrome exterior and simple silhouette, inspired by agricultural buildings found in the surrounding area.
Nobay worked with an architect on the design of the country home – available to rent from Kangaroo Valley Escapes from $900 AUD per night. It features six-metre-high picture windows throughout that frame views of the landscape, and pitched ceilings which maximise the feeling of space inside the four-bedroom Australian holiday home.
Velvet sofas and oxblood leather couches set the tone for Nobay’s interior trappings, create layers of textures that contrast the building’s industrial shell. A vast glass box fire anchors the living room, while bi-folding doors open the interior up to a wraparound deck.
