London’s Art Night is celebrating its fifth edition in June 2020, with new commissions, events and premiers at venues across the city including 180 The Strand and Somerset House.

The programme, entitled Nothing Compares 2 U, will be revealed in full next year but it takes inspiration from ‘defiance in small acts, personal gestures and moments of self-determination.’

These include Stormzy’s 2019’s Glastonbury performance, Anna Burns’ Booker Prize-winning The Milkman and anti-Brexit graffiti artist, the ‘Wakefield Grandmother’.

Anti-racism, trans and non-binary activism; the #Justice4Grenfell movement; and Sinead O’Connor’s recent performance on Ireland’s The Late Late Show will also inspire artists responding to the world they live in. They will draw on their own experiences and in solidarity with their local communities to create new pieces.

The bumper event is the capital’s largest free contemporary arts festival, with last year’s edition taking place across Walthamstow and King’s Cross. For Art Night 2020 – which runs from 6 pm on Saturday 20th June until Sunday 21st June – The Store X, 180 The Strand will throw open its doors as host.

In autumn 2019 The Store X, 180 The Strand hosted United Visual Artists’ Other Spaces exhibition, the multi-artist show Transformer: A Rebirth of Wonder, and Theaster Gates’ Black Image Corporation installation.
