Rough plaster and unfinished floorboards contrast brass and marble at St Petersburg’s Shana, which serves up’ weathered decadence’.
A moody colour palette permeates the restaurant, with dark blues and greens clashing with velvet chairs upholstered in rich gold. El Born Studio’s Ilya Gulyants led the restaurant interiors, installing hand-patinated mirrors and globe-shaped light fittings, along with marble window sills and details.
This sense of contrast continues throughout the St Petersburg restaurant, which mixes the polished and the rough with ease. Gulyants worked closely with architect Katya Alagich, including collaborating on a series of brass candlesticks that sit on every table.
Paintings, inspired by Tel Aviv’s Bauhaus architecture, hang throughout Shana – a nod to its menu, which takes cues from traditional Israeli recipes.
