A. Quincy Jones’s Calvin House is for rent in Los Angeles

Midcentury living

Beloved Los Angeles architect A Quincy Jones designed this refurbished midcentury home in Los Angeles’ Tarzana neighbourhood, now for lease at $8,750 per month.

Jones designed over 5,000 built projects, most notably for Eichler, helping popularise the indoor-outdoor living model of Californian modernism. His 1960 Tarzana design has been renovated in keeping with its midcentury heritage with whitewashed walls, teak and redwood cabinetry.

Shared living spaces have lofty ceilings and are crossed by posts and beams, with internal ‘floating’ walls that exaggerate the height of the single-storey dwelling. The living room is a particular highlight, opening onto the garden, planted with native California fauna and a swimming pool – and offering views of the San Fernando Valley beyond.

The internal courtyard is another visual pull,  shaded by the Los Angeles home’s overhanging eaves, while there are four bedrooms located across the 2,200 sq ft home. It’s for lease through the Partridge Estates Group.
