Peek inside Dorset countryside estate Woolland House

Sculptor Dame Elisabeth Frink created some of her most notable works in the studios of Dorset’s sprawling Woolland House – a vast country estate that blends medieval details with classical bones.

The primary seven-bedroom dwelling on the 17-acre estate – listed with The Modern House for £4.95m – is a redbrick hall with late medieval details. Its spaces are daubed in neutral colours that emphasise the historic country home’s vaulted ceilings and parquet flooring.

While Woolland House has undergone restoration, signs of Frink (who died in 1993) are still present in the form of original plaster casts on display around the Dorset property, and notes and scribbles visible on the walls of her former artist’s studio. In addition to the old hall, there’s a one-bedroom coach house – currently run as an Airbnb – and a pair of one-bedroom apartments in a separate annexe for guests.

The estate also has space for horses, a lush greenhouse, formal gardens and meadows, and an open-air swimming pool and lake. Meanwhile the market town of Blandford Forum – one of the most complete Georgian towns in the UK – is just 12 miles away.
