Members sit beneath the glow of stained glass windows at The Ruby Street creative hub, which has taken over a 125-year-old church in Los Angeles’s Garvanza neighbourhood.

The building was completed during the height of the 1930s Arts and Crafts movement and has undergone a complete renovation courtesy of Working Holiday Studio and interior designer Francesca de la Fuente.

As part of its adaptive reuse, they aimed to turn the converted church – often hired as a wedding and events venue – into a place for artists, musicians and creatives to work, meet, and host events. The space will also host workshops, screenings, exhibitions, and an artist-in-residency programme.

The team has given the building’s exterior a fresh lick of blue paint and created cosy seating areas inside with vibrant orange sofas, and steel-framed lounge chairs. Dark wood has been whitewashed, new oak floorboards installed, and plants dotted about the open-plan Los Angeles coworking space.

As a nod to the church’s religious past, long refectory-style communal tables cross the studio. And for guests enviously eyeing up the furniture, much of it is up for sale on The Ruby Street website.
