Whitewashed bamboo and exposed timber bring a homey vibe to this airy restaurant, located at the heart of a fishing village on Portugal’s western Alentejo coast.
LADO Arquitectura e Design led Abranda’s interiors, which are hidden behind an unimposing white and blue building in Largo Marquês de Pombal. It opens up to reveal a bright and open space, dominated by the terracotta-coloured encaustic tiles installed by the studio.
Overhead, wooden beams, wicker pendants and a traditional ceiling made using local bamboo turn this former house into a welcoming space. The central dining room opens out onto a backyard which is shaded by a pergola.
Small places of cod, clam pastries and ceviche are on the menu, with the coast just five minute’s walk from the Portuguese restaurant.
