Armchairs by Lina Bo Bardi, drawers by Gio Ponti and dazzling ceiling lamps by Christian Pellizzari set the scene inside Room 19 at Paris’ Hôtel de Maison – an immersive display by Nilufar Gallery to mark its Design Miami/Paris debut, celebrating 20th-century furniture design.
The Paris edition of the Design Miami fair (which Nilufar has long been a fixture at) launched in 2023 to great success, quickly establishing itself as a key fixture of the global design schedule. For the 2024 edition, Nilufar has taken up residence inside the hotel, with founder Nina Yashar curating a show of rarified furniture for the home.
The eclectic offering skips between decades, materials, forms, and functions. Among the key pieces is a 1950s chest of walnut drawers designed by the Maestro, Gio Ponti, seating by Gino Levi Montalcini and Giuseppe Pagano, and a plump daybed from Marzio Cecchi. An extendable low table by Gabriella Crespi injects a dose of 1970s nostalgia.
To counterbalance these vintage gems are a careful selection of contemporary designs, notably Pellizzari’s floating ceiling lamp and evocative sculptures by artist Jonathan Trayte.
