Studio esinam and photographer Rory Gardiner shine a light on ‘the subtle beauty of Brutalism at its best’ in a new series titled Utopia.

London’s Barbican, Hayward Gallery, Trellick Tower and Robin Hood Goods are among the buildings captured across 21 photographs, available as limited edition prints. The series coincides with the 500th anniversary of Thomas More’s seminal book, Utopia, about the customs of a perfect society.

‘In contrary to how many people perceive Brutalism today, it was once the architecture of utopian visions and ambitions of actually making people’s lives better through architecture,’ says Studio esinam.

‘These projects were based on the valuing of human relationships and interactions and on a will to democratise architecture and making the city open for everyone.’

Four of the Utopia photographs are available as prints, with 17 more to follow soon.
