Modern lakefront cottage in Copenhagen was once an architect’s studio

An architect’s studio is now a modern home on Lake Gentofte’s shores following a gentle renovation to polish its historic bones.

The Copenhagen property dates from 1795 and belonged to the Alexander Mitchell sock factory. Architects Edith and Ole Nørgård acquired it in 1960, giving it an award-winning renovation and using it for many decades as their studio.

It is now on the market via Adam Schnack for 6.365m DKK and the 85 sqm cottage that has been masterfully updated with interiors that celebrate its heritage. Herringbone brick floors run across the ground floor, where a modern kitchen and living room are outfitted with midcentury finishes.

A timber tread staircase curves up to the first floor arranged as an office and bedroom with whitewashed walls and light wooden floorboards. It could potentially become two rooms, with views over the lake from its diagonal windows.
