This elephant resort in northern Thailand has installed see-through domes that let guests spend the night alongside the local herd.
The Jungle Bubbles measure just 22 sq m but come with a king-size bed, minibar and 24-hour room service. They’re raised on a wooden terrace, giving guests a good view of the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp and Resort’s resident population – many of whom have been rescued from illegal logging camps, the street or elephant shows.
The jungle resort hopes the huts let people see elephants behaving naturally, rather than in the forced conditions that much wildlife tourism depends on.
After a night in the domes – which costs £446 a night – visitors can sponsor one of the animals, supporting its food and care for a year.
