This Kyiv basement bar brings the outside via a grassy art installation that springs from the ceiling above guests’ heads.

Rabbit Habit is located in the basement of a building on the city’s Shota Rustaveli Street. With limited ceiling heights to work with, and the need to add ventilation to the restaurant, the designers, YOD Group, decided to use this exposed pipeworks to create cylindrical lamps above tables.

The second of the bar’s two main spaces features a striking art installation, made up of dried herbs, flowers and grasses that appear to be growing out of the ceiling overhead to haunting effect. Timber wall panels further the natural feel while creating an acoustic chamber for more intimate gatherings.

Counters and furniture have been built using salvaged blocks and planks of timber – fashioned from historic Carpathian house beams. Rabbit motifs also dot the space, peering out of planters, perched next to tables and lined up outside the bar front to add a playful touch to the Kyiv bar.
