XO Divine Disaster shot at Thamesmead

British musician XO’s new music video for ‘Divine Disaster’ is a dizzying tour of the Brutalist Thamesmead housing estate.

Built in the late 1960s, the concrete complex in south east London famously appeared in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange and more recently in The Libertines’ video for ‘What Became of the Likely Lads’.

Now, director Simon Lane has put a new spin – quite literally – on Thamesmead, capturing the housing estate with a Steadicam that’s constantly rotating and moving back and forth.

‘The spinning camera technique works really well with the angular architecture and the estate is really a character within the promo,’ says Lane. ‘As the camera spins, the tower blocks and harsh shadows create intriguing shapes and that was my focus.’
