Dubai is known for its architectural one-upmanship but it seems the desert city is taking it even further by building the world’s first hotel with its own indoor rainforest.

The 450-bedroom Rosemont Hotel and Residences – which will reportedly cost £230m – features a man-made rainforest and aquarium, as well as a fine dining restaurant, spa, gym and rooftop infinity pool which extends beyond the edge of the building.

ZAS Architects is designing the 47-storey complex, which was first announced in February and will be operated by Hilton Worldwide. One tower will contain around 280 private serviced apartments, while the other will accommodate hotel suites and amenities.

New CGI’s reveal the scale of the hotel’s public areas inside the five-storey ‘podium’ at the base of the towers. Filled with tropical plants, mist sprays and fresh-water pools, it will also house an artificial beach.

Renders also appear to show a ceiling aquarium, big enough for a giant whale shark…

According to The Telegraph, less spectacular (but no less fun) offerings will also include a bowling alley and trampoline park.

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2018. Only time will tell whether the reality is all that’s promised…
