Award-winning practice Brinkworth designed this voluminous one-bedroom apartment inside a converted granary in East London.
The canalside Grade II*listed granary was built in 1878 for the North Metropolitan Tramways Company as a forage warehouse for its horses. Historic features, including soaring 18-ft-high vaulted ceilings, juxtapose modern additions, including concrete kitchen surfaces and a floating concrete staircase which accesses a split mezzanine.
Brinkley has divided the ground floor into four ‘zones’: a living room space is screened by a towering concrete panel that forms part of the staircase and peeks onto the courtyard via floor-to-ceiling windows.
There’s also a dining area for entertaining, a secondary reception on the mezzanine and a master bedroom that has been acoustically-treated and features an internal corner balcony.
The Hackney property is available as a long term rental from £895 per week via Fyfe McDade from early June 2020.
