The odds are that you’ve stumbled across Canadian comedy Schitt’s Creek on Netflix during lockdown. The real-life motel from the cult Emmy-winning CBC show is now for sale in Ontario for CAD 2m.
The Hockley Motel is located in the small town of Mono, northwest of Toronto. It served as the exterior set for the Rose family’s now beloved riches-to-rags sitcom story, which saw them renovate the run-down business which they originally bought as a joke.

It’s also been used pretty regularly as a film location, most recently appearing in Netflix superhero series, The Umbrella Academy and 2005 thriller A History of Violence.
The Ontario property includes 6.7 acres of riverfront land. At the same time, the motel itself is pitched a fixer-upper for fans of the show or city-dwellers seeking a countryside retreat they can put their stamp on.
Colliers Hotels is soliciting interest in the estate, and would-be-buyers have until 14 December 2020 to put in an offer.
