We’ve had tiny homes, tiny restaurants, and now Japan has a tiny bakery. The dinky pastry shop in Omihachiman City has just enough space for a pair of stools and one display case of cakes.

Alts Design Office created the bakery, which is cloaked by shutters that slide back to reveal its glass frontage. The cake shop, which usually opens two Sundays a month, is run by a teenager with a debilitating anxiety disorder that makes it challenging for her to socialise and interact with others.

Her parents crowdfunded the money to design and build the bakery, which gives Mi-chan an outlet for her love of creating pastries and cakes. A small space at the back of the store provides an enclosed room where she can do her baking while still enjoying glimpses of the sky and the outdoors. Specialities at the store include Basque-style cheesecake and birthday cakes decorated with fruit.
