To mark its 10th anniversary in its Rick Mather Architects-designed home, Eastbourne’s Towner Art Gallery has got colourful.

German artist Lothar Götz has created Dance Diagonal!, a multi-hued geometric mural over three sides of the building on England’s south coast. The challenge was to come up with a design which would work over Mather’s angles and exterior recesses.

‘I decided to paint all areas of the building’s rendered surface,’ says Götz, ‘which resulted in the painting kind of wrapping over the balustrades of the balconies and into the curved alcoves.’

Brewers Towner Commission – Götz’s biggest to date – is on show until May 2020.
