Abu Dhabi’s La Petite cafe is all about the rugged minimalism

Raw plaster offsets glistening steel and aluminium

Minimalism goes raw at this cafe in Abu Dhabi, which is proving plaster can create just as much impact as concrete.

Design studio Bone recently overhauled La Petite cafe’s interiors, installing a sizable new serving counter that now dominates the space. It’s made using unpainted plaster, which leaves the underlying chalky pink colour and texture of the material exposed.

The huge counter creates the backdrop for the coffee shop’s seating areas, furnished with ultra-minimal steel chairs and tables made from metal cubes. Cushions and stools in white and beige tones complete the palette. And to finish things off, vases of wildflowers are dotted about the Abu Dhabi cafe.
